No comment on the automatic seeding for conference championships? That seems to be the real interest killer in all of this given that Tulane and JMU aren't competitive right out of the gate. I think football purists can argue that the playoff system should be designed to feature the best teams in college football, rather than first-round fodder. At least teams like Alabama, Texas A&M, etc. have a realistic shot at winning the national title, even if it's unlikely to happen.
But when one of the first round fodders actually win a contest, it immediately becomes a hot media story. Everybody loves a Cinderella story, right?
Even if Trump were to be revealed as the Dark Lord of the Sith, he's still better than the last four presidents we've had.
Yes, I guess that would be true. I suppose it's also true that other sports leagues (e.g. at the pro level) give playoff spots to divisional winners, rather than to the teams with the best overall records. Still, I think that there's a case to be made college football is a different animal because there is a massive number of teams in Div. I that hypothetically compete for the national championship.
In any case, the real games - the semifinals - start today and go into tomorrow. I'm going to predict Georgia and Ohio State win, along with Texas Tech and (the underdog) Alabama.
So with Miami convincingly beating Ohio State, Oregon blanking Texas Tech 23-0, and Indiana smothering Alabama by 35 points, I see my predictions are 0 for 3. With that in mind, don't be surprised if Ole Miss somehow mangles Georgia in tonight's Sugar Bowl. 😂
Ok, wow. Just wow. So I did not actually expect that Ole Miss would top Georgia when I wrote my last post a few hours ago, but here we are.
Turns out all my predictions yesterday for the four bowl games were all wrong. Amazing.
Welcome to the NIL era where teams with deep pockets can rent a championship caliber team for a year.
