Recently, OpenAI's model declined to shut itself down when ordered to do so. Should we be scared?
I was reading today about "Mythos", which is an AI platform made by Anthropic. It allows people to "vibe code", or use natural language to create apps. However, it has a second function that is apparently very dangerous, which is to find ways to exploit web sites or computer systems. From what I read, it sounds like in testing, it was able to find quite a few exploits that had been overlooked for years, and so the platform has not yet been released to the public.
So this is the world we are entering: malicious actors using AI to defraud, scam, steal, and destroy, but on a scale far greater than anything we've seen before. It's rather dystopian.
I've been "vibe coding" quite a bit for my company. My current project is building a search engine for our local intranet server. I also made a gasket nesting tool for circles and hexagon shapes for nesting on rotary presses and vertical presses. My boss is building a custom CRM system so we can get away from Apptivo. I also made a mail labeler for my personal use for samples I mail out to our customers, and a Request For Quote ticket system for our Sales Team. The search engine project has been rough...very steep learning curve for me. But not very long ago, none of these things would have been possible for me to do.
