Called it.  Though to be honest I thought it would be eight teams.

Needed to happen a long time ago.

Even if Trump were to be revealed as the Dark Lord of the Sith, he's still better than the last four presidents we've had.

So was this year's national championship game a bust with the Georgia blowout?  It seems to me like without Alabama in it, it could never be a great game.  Almost makes me think that Alabama should get an automatic seeding in the playoff so long as Saban is there.  The two games they lost this season were by a combined four points.

The B1G Ten champ Michigan couldn't handle TCU but Ohio State nearly beat Georgia but got demolished by Michigan. Alabama may be better than them all but you have to earn your spot by not losing during the season.  However, when the playoffs expand to 12, the best teams should all be represented and then decide it on the field.  But congrats to Georgia for getting it done when they needed to.

Looks like the CFP this season could be one of the better ones in memory with the following teams in:

1. Michigan

2. Washington

3. Texas

4. Alabama

I think the fact that the SEC team barely got in - and is the underdog - makes this playoff intriguing.  Of course, the fact that undefeated Florida State missed out could be a source of controversy for a long time.

Florida State earned their spot and should not have been cut.  Losing one player to injury should not be reason enough to exclude an undefeated Power 5 Conference champion.  Yes FSU would get demolished by any of the other teams that got in, but negating what they accomplished on the playing field is a bad look on the CFP committee.  Hopefully the 12 team playoff next year will put an end to these controversies.

Well how about Georgia, then?  Go undefeated the last two years and lose one game by a measly 3 points, and you're out of the national championship conversation.  This is the crapshoot of the college football playoff system, I guess.  I recall when it was first unveiled some years ago that it seemed like they wanted it to be conservative and barely disrupt the traditional bowl game schedule.  This year shows the ridiculousness of the four-team playoff.  You're right - the expanded playoff system should hopefully make this a proper sport going forward.

Just wait until the high resource football schools break away into another FBS division so they don't have to share with the Vanderbilts and Northwesterns of the college football world.

Now that Georgia demolished Florida State 63-3 in the Orange Bowl, does that change your perspective on things at all?  Or do you hold to your original sentiment that the only thing that matters is whether you earned it during the regular season?

Absolutely not.  Florida State had 22 players opt out of the bowl game or were in the transfer portal including their #2 quarterback.  The score was indicative of a severely depleted team who had no interest in competing in that bowl game. Georgia was angry for being left out too but used the Orange Bowl as a platform to show the committee it made a mistake.  A healthy Travis and the full team would have competed very well against Georgia.  Regardless, FSU deserved it's place in the playoff because they did what was necessary to get in.  They went undefeated and won their Power 5 conference championship and had as good a record against the Top 25 as any of the other contenders.  If they were already an SEC team or from the B1G, they would not have been snubbed.  That's the simple fact of the matter.

To be honest, I did not realize that FSU sat so many players for the game.  After reading a story about it, it looks like they did it in part to protest the team's snub.

Interestingly, I read somewhere that when the playoff expands, it will make the other bowl games kind of meaningless.  However, were any of the minor bowl games ever meaningful in the first place?  Not really.
