So I think there was a post on here that got deleted during the database wipe of 2021, but I believe the idea was floated that Donovan Mitchell would eventually be one of the top players in the NBA. I disagreed then and I still disagree (there are too many other great players before him), but I just wanted to put this out there:
Will Victor Wembanyama become a perennial great? Or will he fizzle out similar to the likes of Ben Simmons or other top players who peak in their first or second year?
He had a ho-hum first game of the season last night, posting 15 points and 5 boards in 23 minutes.
That's because you follow college basketball, and Wembanyama came from the French basketball circuit. 😊 I guess we have just identified a gaping hole in your basketball knowledge.
I didn't even know the French played basketball lol. We'll see how good he is. The game is changing more toward European style players so his chances of being the next "Lebron" might not be good since Lebron is an Isolation player rather than a Euro style finesse player.

So Wembanyama had a pretty good rookie season. He also led the league in blocks, and it wasn't even close.Â
Wanted to check back in on this this thread. Donovan Mitchell is a bona fide all-star, and this season he's averaging over 27 ppg. But Victor Wembanyama is turning into one of the greatest players in the league, and he's still only 22 years old.
I find it interesting that the top four players in the conversation for the MVP this year are all international players: Wembanyama (France), Gilgeous-Alexander (Canada), Doncic (Slovenia), and Jokic (Serbia).
